In Codename Heroes, you play a secret agent with superpowers. You complete missions sent through a secret messaging system on your mobile phone, and you smuggle messages to other agents on your team. You can share superpowers by constructing magic artifacts and hiding them for your teammates to find.
The purpose of the game is to engage and empower young women. The design is informed by ethnographic studies of young women as well as by gender studies.
Codename Heroes is a persistent, multiplayer, crowd-sourced pervasive game that uses Bluetooth, GPS and the phone camera. Our goal is to demonstrate a sustainable model, integrating gameplay and payment in a way that is acceptable to players.
Codename Heroes is under development, and will be fully tested in the beginning of May 2012. Right now we test how it feels to interact with player-created magic artifacts.
